Complaints against unregulated lettings agents at all time high
13 November 2009
According to a report released this week, the number of complaints against unregulated agents is up a staggering 26% from this time last year. Analysts suggest that this has been caused by an influx of sales agents re-focussing their attention on the lettings sector, following the collapse of the residential sales sector. Unfortunately, it seems that many of these agents were lacking in experience and qualifications necessary to succeed in the sector.
To combat this issue, all estate agents must now be registered with the Property Ombudsman scheme. Edmund Cude is a member of both this scheme and the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA). To be a member of these schemes, we are obliged to adhere to a strict code of conduct, insure our client money and submit our accounts to regular independent scrutiny.
At times like this when the need for transparency and good practice is at an all time high, it has never been more important to select regulated and reputable agent.
